VIDEO: Official trailer for ‘Big Stone Gap’ movie released

Now is your chance to get a first look at the official trailer for a big screen movie filmed right here in the Tri-Cities region.

Almost two years ago, New York Times bestselling author (turned director), Adriana Trigiani, announced the movie“Big Stone Gap” would be filmed in her hometown.

Now, the movie bearing the name of the her hometown will be released to theaters nationwide on October 9th.

The movie, based on her best-selling novel, brings to life a story of a woman named Ave Maria Mulligan (Ashley Judd) , now “an old-maid” turning 40, living in a  coal mining town in Appalachian Mountains in 1978. Ave Maria ,“decides that happiness is for other people – that is, until a long-buried family secret throws her quite life off-course,” according to the movie’s official website.

Back in May, News channel 11 met up with Paul Wilson.  He appeared in the movie alongside his brother, award-winning actor Patrick Wilson.

Paul Wilson described the making of the movie as a special homecoming, where he spent summers visiting his grandparents as a child.

“It was a memory of a lifetime. And then to do it here in Big Stone Gap and to stay with Patrick in our family house on Wilson Road – that will never happen again,” said Paul. “I’m very proud to come from a place in this area where we can actually on film show what it’s all about here.”

The Wilson brothers returned to Big Stone Gapfor “The Gathering in the Gap: where their band “The Wilson Van” performed.
